I’ve read both books in this series and have to say this book excels. The retro vibe is A+. NOTE: it is not necessary to read the first book to enjoy this book on its own.

The aliens return in the most horrific way to Elview, NY. The dead of winter setting adds to the disturbing vibe. The heat of the hormone drenched couple who first encounter the aliens (in the very 80’s-like sexy truck scene) and the Winter carnage happening outside their door, set up a great opening for a horror story. This isn’t for the sensitive reader. The aliens don’t just consume humans, they take them over and embody them in the most horrific of ways. And you get the details. It’s awesome.

I am a big fan of the ‘aliens visit during Christmas’ genre (if there is such a thing) but I don’t feel like it has been done well. Until now. One of my least favorite plot patterns in horror books is ‘people are doing things’….’bad things happen to the people doing said things’. I feel like the writer relies on the gore to be the meat of the story. This story isn’t that. It has gore, a well laid out plot, and a few minor cliff hangers to make you want to turn the page. Definitely a fun read.
