Clara is obsessed with death, particularly her own. Jasper is a serial killer with a taste for young women. Jasper is able to share his secrets with Clara and to his surprise, she becomes an integral part of his hunt for new prey.
This is extreme horror and dark romance combined into one deeply disturbing story. The two characters are so psychologically dark that it was scary to read their thoughts and deeds. Their desire for each other becomes a story of willing possession. And like the reader, Clara starts to wonder if Jasper plans to possess her in death also. They even discuss what she would want done if he did kill her. In the meantime, they hunt lost hikers and torture them back at Jasper’s cabin. But one anomaly Clara just can’t figure out is where does the strange man who is helping Jasper dispose of bodies figure into all of this?
I read a lot of extreme horror, but this is by far one of the most thought-provoking stories I’ve read. It does exactly what pushing boundaries should do, push you out of your comfort zone long enough to make you question all that you hold as true. I highly recommend this read.
