As many know, Carl John Lee is David Sodergren's pen name for his extreme horror books. Sodergren is probably best known for his books "The Haar" and "Maggie's Grave". Much like Sodergren, I'm at a loss as to whether this book should be called extreme horror or splatterpunk. Most in the horror genre consider extreme horror to be boundary pushing with little inferred meaning and splatterpunk to have meaning behind its gore. It seems to be a little of both. I liken it to Stephen King's "Carrie" if Carrie were a lesbian and bat shit nuts from being in a coma. And don't get me started on the highly erotic scenes that are superbly placed throughout the book.
Judith Sonnet's forward starts with "You ain't ready for this." I agree. I needed to clear my afternoon once I started reading. The charm of the book not only came in the high quality writing but from its transition from a seemingly lusty but simple romance to an outright bloodbath. Five stars easy.
Note: I read Psychic Teenage Bloodbath II also but only recommend that to see what happens next. In my opinion, this is a superior book.
