Country is a way of life and a set of values. A girl learns what it means to be Country in the 70's in Central New York State and she grows into a woman that takes those values with her wherever she goes. From learning about wintergreen berries to Alice Walker giving her class commencement speech, the sense of a profound connection to the land permeates a Country Girl's life. The often forgotten story of pre-colonial Native life sets the foreground for her journey. The story of her British and German farming family and their lives and values inform her throughout life. And growing up gay in a small farming community, gives light to an experience that actually sees something positive in the 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' mentality that comes only from being Country.
